Can I Die From Swallowing A Earring

Opportunities in ecological farms worldwide

A colleague of ESF, Cristina, participates regularly in the WWOOF experience within, and now tells us little of these experiences.

What is it of WWOOF?

The wwoof (acronym for "World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, "or" Opportunities in ecological farms in the world "for those who have forgotten or never learned English ...) is a network that began in Britain in 1971 and has since grown to become an international movement. Basically consists of an exchange where one person can do volunteer work on several "farms", the change of accommodation, maintenance and learning on subjects as diverse as farming and biodynamic, Permaculture, livestock farming, beekeeping, making bread, preparing jelly and preserves bioconstrución, etc..
This network is structured second country, some of them have a national organization (for example, there wwoof Spain wwoof India wwoof Brazil, etc.), each with a page that pops up a public list with the description of 'farms' associated, therefore need to be soci @ the organization of the particular country to have access to contact data of the "farms" (phone, email). In addition, there are countries that do not have a national organization (the Independent WWOOF), which can be accessed and soci @ any of the national organizations wwoof. For example, if I am a partner wwoof Spain, I can get for free the "farms" of Morocco, Belgium and Kenya, which are independent wwoof.

¿fouls experience working in the area to collaborate on "farms"?
For unless some isolated case in one to specify the description of "farm" experience is not necessary (I, urbanite until a few months ago, are a clear example that anyone can join ...). The only thing they lack is full of will, a little time, and some pouquiños money (to pay the membership fee @ wwoof that if Spain is 20 € for one year, handling, and vices ...)

What kind of work you do?
Depends' farm, but from work in the garden (planting, harvesting, herbs remove evil) to make bread ecological, through herding sheep and paint the facade of a house ... Everything is a matter of choosing a "farm" with a project that interests us, and ask what are the tasks that make @ s @ s voluntary it.

How are housing and food?
It also depends on the farm, from sleeping in a Palleira, or a hotel being built without running water, to a room overlooking the cable or Fisterra Txindoki. The food at many sites is vegetarian or vegan, but in others they eat everything. The same, it all comes in the description of "farm" or you can ask before you go.

¿This will be the one thing hippies?
I'm not sure what you mean by hippie people, but what is clear is that most people who subscribe to his "ranch" in the network would like to live in a more sustainable and more contact with nature, and possibly has a mind more open than the average population, because if not, among other things, not worked on these issues, nor Aloxi strangers, often in their own home. But inside the network there is everything: communities, associations, cooperatives, single persons, and especially families who engage in this to sell their produce or develop, or simply try to be self-sufficient.

And no freaking work for free?
Your commitment as working time depends on the "farm", but appears to be 5 hours daily, Monday through Friday. You have guaranteed their basic needs, working outdoors, without pressure, with a continuous learning, in a good environment, and because he liked, not by the need to make money. Chamádeme stupid, but I try as much as I can not find a thing in today's job market ...

And it came to a "farm" and not like? For
marches. If not these comfortable in the "farm" in any context that thinks it can solve, and only a point of explaining the person who lodges e. .. look elsewhere!

The garden produce

13 reasons why I recommend this experience

  • Why learn about organic farming, permaculture, etc., in a practical way.
  • As you can see with your own eyes that live in the countryside and the countryside does not necessarily mean sacrifice and lack of facilities.
  • Because it is a cheap and interesting way to travel, which can achegarte from within the customs and people of the country or region you visit. Because
  • intersect with outr @ s @ s traveler who tell you their experiences and open your mind.
  • because he knows the situation in rural areas of the site (which on the other hand, is very similar where boos).
  • Why learn to live a more sustainable and respectful of nature.
  • Because finding people who have their same concerns.
  • Because you can learn languages.
  • Because money become an afterthought, and not interfere in relations humanities.
  • because you realize that most of our needs in everyday life are not real. Because
  • live new experiences and a little surreal. By
  • sense to pick that produces their food in the garden instead of the supermarket.
  • And because by trying not to lose anything, so hopefully Tervo convinced to try it the wwoof!
